this presentation will explain the GED program also known as high school equivalency at Chaffey Adult School it's presented by your counselors mrs. Smith and mr. yang hello and welcome to Chaffey Adult School are you interested in taking classes to prepare for the GED exam the g e d is an alternative to I need a high school diploma that means if you're unable to complete a high school diploma you can take the GED exam and earn something that is equal to a diploma passing the GED is a great way to better yourself and your future let's first discuss the details the g e d 30 IDI was originally an acronym for the test of general education but now he referred to as a high school equivalency or Agency for short for the purposes of this presentation we will use these terms interchangeably in order to earn your California high school Valencia certificate you must pass for GT subject test decent food math language arts social studies and sign these tests can be taken on a computer in our testing center currently the fee is $35 for each subject test once you pass all four tests you will receive your California high school equivalency certificate from the state now let's discuss how the GED program works Chaffey Adult School we offer free courses to help you prepare for the GED exam these classes are facilitated by an instructor they are self-paced and they have option to be in person or online however attendance is required and you may be required to purchase a textbook for the course as a result of covid-19 seen many of our classes have been modified to allow for distance learning this model provides an opportunity for students to complete courses online at home to participate in distance learning courses students I have a computer and internet access for example we may use doom and other online platforms to conduct classes to help facilitate distance learning so you might be thinking how do I get started when registration is open for enrollment you will see this online registration form link on the Chaffey Adult School website if you do not see this link on the website than our registration. Has closed please check our course catalog for registration dates and more information once you complete the online registration form you will schedule a time to come to campus to take a placement test the results of your test will ensure proper placement in the GED program after your test you will be enrolled in a class that fits into your schedule then you will be required to complete a new student orientation let's talk about some of the frequently asked questions does paper Adult School have a graduation ceremony we are super excited to celebrate your success every may we have a graduation ceremony that includes a full cap and gown this is specifically for students who have passed the exam while enrolled in our classes at the adult school another question is how long does it take to prepare for the GED test because every student is on their own Journey. nine fairies and it's based on the academic levels and commitment of each student however the program may be completed within one year can anyone enroll in the GED program you must be at least 18 years of age and a local resident to qualify for our program another question is can I attend college with a GED Hsu certain absolutely community colleges will accept it and will not prevent you from attaining higher degrees my tasks if I want to take the GED test do I need to take the GED classes our prep classes are not a requirement for taking the test but it is highly recommended that you complete our courses in order to better prepare for passing the GED exam now you might be wondering how do I register to take the actual GED test sign up for the test go to www.att.com and find a testing center near you for a reference check the adult school is one of the many testing areas Southern California yeah I want to tell you about our Access Center this is a great resource for students who want to continue their education or transition into the workforce we provide help with College and Career transitions you can take a career assessment to find out your interest we also notify students of local job openings and help with college applications just at the Chaffey Adult School we are here to support you please call the school if you have any questions we're happy to help you if you're ready to get started GED classes and please check our website to see if registration is open remember to look for the online registration form if the link is live then please fill out all of the information and a staff member reach out to you shortly thank you so much we look forward to helping you and hope you have a great day
