COMPUTER SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS

Chaffey Adult School offers a variety of computer technology courses that enable *non-ESL students to perform in the current office environment. All classes are open-entry, instructor guided and tutorial based. We have added MOS Certification Testing as of 2021. Demonstrate your MS software strengths to employers by becoming certified in: Word Specialist/Expert, Excel Specialist/Expert, Access Specialist/Expert, or PowerPoint Specialist/Expert.  Please see your teacher or call (909)391-5365 for more details.

Day and evening classes are available and students must meet the prerequisites for each of the courses. 

The fee for each module is $40 plus a $5 materials fee.  Note: All courses require a flash drive/memory stick to begin.

Typing Certificates are available for non-students for a fee of $25.  Please call (909)391-5365.

COMPUTER LAB PROGRAM COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Keyboarding I
An introduction to Keyboarding: Learn proper "Touch Typing" techniques for building speed and accuracy.
Prerequisite: None

Computer Applications I

  • Beginning Keyboarding-Basic use of the keyboard and techniques designed to achieve 15 NWPM
  • Computer Concepts - Learn computer components, windows and internet skills
  • Introduction to basic Office365 skills
  • Prerequisite: None

 

Word Processing I utilizing Microsoft Word 365
For the beginning/intermediate user to learn to create letters, memos, reports formatting text, tabs, bullets and numbering, tables, clip art, columns, and mail merge.
Prerequisite: Computer Applications, type minimum of of 15-20 NWPM

Word Processing II utilizing Microsoft Word 365
For the intermediate/advanced user to learn to crease: headers/footers, bibliographies and citations, templates, shapes, SmartArt, table of contents, track changes, digital signature, macros, and integration.
Prerequisite: Word Processing I final, type 25 NWPM 

Word Processing III utilizing Microsoft Word 365
For the advanced user to learn to design with styles, managing merge options, managing macros, create forms, create a table of authorities & index, use outline view, integrating & sharing documents and data, customizing Word. Prerequisite: Word Processing II final and get teacher approval, type 25 NWPM

Spreadsheets I utilizing Microsoft Excel 365
For the beginning/intermediate user to learn to do the following: worksheet basics, create formulas & functions (sum, min, max, average, PMT, COUNT, DATE & NOW, absolute & mixed references, IF statements), formatting cells, hiding columns & rows, charts, print areas, background picture, find & replace, link between worksheets, sort & filter, hyperlinks, insert comments.
Prerequisite: Computer Applications & type 15-20 NWPM

Spreadsheets II utilizing Microsoft Excel 365
For the intermediate/advanced user to learn to do the following: conditional formatting, advanced formulas & functions (AVERAGEIF, COUNTIF, SUMIF, PPMT, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, nested formulas with IF, AND, OR, create a table, calculated column in a table, validation criteria, 3D reference, name ranges and use in formulas, PivotTables & Pivot Charts, Goal Seek, one-variable and two-variable data tables, Text functions such as (LOWER, UPPER, SUBSTITUTE), macros, form controls, templates, protect a worksheet & workbook, unlock cells. Prerequisite: Spreadsheets I (or test out), type 25 NWPM

Presentation Applications utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint 365
For the beginning/intermediate/advanced user to learn to create presentations and utilize design tools with sounds, graphics and animations.
Prerequisite: Word Processing I, Spreadsheets I, type 25 NWPM 

Database Applications utilizing Microsoft Access 365                                                                                            Create a database, querying, relationships, and complex queries.                                                                          Prerequisite: Word Processing I & II, Spreadsheets I & II, type 25 NWPM
