HSE (GED)-High School Equivalency Exam Preparation
ADULT BASIC EDUCATION (ABE)
Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes focus on improving math skills (including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percent) and basic English (including reading, writing, grammar, and sentence mechanics). Each class is taught through direct instruction from a credentialed teacher. The highly focused sessions will prepare students for transitioning to the advanced level HSE/GED test preparation classes or high school diploma classes per the student’s academic plan. Enrollment and classes are held at the 7th Street campus. There is no cost for these courses Students are required to view an orientation video explaining program expectations and educational/personal goal setting.
An assessment will be given in the office at the time of registration to insure proper program placement. Students will attend a mandatory orientation session to outline program expectations and set educational and personal goals.

ADVANCED LEVEL HSE (GED) TEST PREP
HSE (High School Equivalency) standards are based on high school graduate skills in the areas of reading, writing, math, social studies, and science.
HSE (High School Equivalency) standards are based on high school graduate skills in the areas of reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. The HSE/GED test preparation program is designed to prepare students
to pass the GED computer-based exam. All classes are facilitated by a credentialed instructor and are self-paced; many classes are taught through direct instruction. The GED Math Prep class includes both math and science practice; the GED English Prep class includes both language arts and social studies practice. Class materials include test prep software and practice tests. For students who need more flexibility than on campus classes, a GED Online Study Lab option is available Thursdays from 3:00-7:00 pm.

GED EXAM
The CAS Main Campus is an authorized GED Testing Center. All examinees must first register for the GED exam by creating a free account online at ged.com. All exams are scheduled in advance and paid for online. The four GED subtests may be taken one at a time and they are available in English or Spanish. For more information about the

Requirements for Testing:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Present a valid, government-issued, photo ID (i.e. driver's license, CA ID, passport)
- Present proof of California residency (i.e. utility bill, bank statement, government issued documentation)
